Snow Day and Kitty Cats
February 18th, 2010

I’m still in awe that it snowed in L.A for Valentine’s Day weekend. I mean, we’re an hour from the Florida line! The last time it snowed with any great bravado was the Blizzard of ‘93. Yes, “Blizzard” gets capitalized. It was that big of a deal.

We probably got 5-6 inches of white, fluffy stuff. It was fabulous… Except for the part where I fell down. And broke the new camera. After having broken the other camera several months ago when I fell down on a trip to Gatlinburg. Why people trust me with expensive electronics, I’ll never know.

It was really great to have the energy to go out and play in the snow. For months (longer, really) I’ve just been so tired. On top of all my other health problems, I’ve begun going to bed at 8-ish and getting up around the same time the next morning. Then, for the rest of the day I’m still so TIRED. It’s like I’m constantly walking through gelatin. A few weeks ago, two different doctors diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. I was put on some new medications and after two weeks I can see a definite improvement. Not only am I less tired and able to have more regular bedtimes, I’ve also lost five of the twenty pounds I’d inexplicably gained lately. That’s really fabulous news, considering it looks like my wedding dress might be cutting it a little close when it comes in.

Hopefully, I’ll continue getting my energy back so that I can start exercising. My knees can really tell that I’ve been slacking for months and months. If I’m not careful I’m going to end up back in physical therapy. Not cool.

The weather’s turning out nicely the last couple of days and everything seems to be warming up. Some of the plants haven’t really recovered from the frost, especially the flowers John and I just planted. They’re basically toast. I’m sure replanting everything will give me plenty of exercise. Pandora’s really sad to see the sun come out, though. She really liked playing in the snow, and meowed pitifully at the windows when it started melting. Her sister is slightly more thrilled, because now she can chase birds from window to window.

We have such crazy cats. Pandora is a yogurt fiend who will eat or play with anything cold (ice, snow, etc) and likes to lick condensation, whether from the outside of a glass or from your legs when you exit the shower. Oh, and she’s in love with Bianca the gerbil. The relationship appears to be mutual. Up until it snowed, she never meowed, seldom purred and was just happy to be in the same room with you. She was a very hands-off kitty. Now, it’s like a switch has been flipped! She follows me around everywhere and meows at all the windows and doors. She’s even curls up next to me when I’m reading in bed.

A.C., on the other hand, will only eat yogurt because her sister does. She’d much rather have a Special Kitty treat, and will climb bookshelves and into cabinets trying to find where we’ve hidden them. She is destructive, but only because she wants attention, and she will have an entire conversation with anyone willing to talk back. If part of you is not touching her, you are too far away. She has been known to play Marco Polo through the house to find a human to be with. Apparently, Pandora does not count as an affection-giver. She is also insatiably attracted to the scent of alcohol, which we keep reminding her she is far too young for. We usually get meowed at for our troubles.

There’s so much more I want to say, but I can’t really think of a good way to incorporate everything. I mean, I’ve rambled so much as it is that I think the other things would get lost. Maybe I’ll rewrite this later to make everything more cohesive. Till then!
