A Change of Plans

What happened to our plans?
The ones made secretly anew each night
of meeting somewhere away from here
and just being together
away from parental prying eyes
and my imposed protective bubble.
We were to dream together
and laugh and talk and play
and love…
But now you say you cannot make it
tied down with responsibility–
Another year, you make your claim
yes, I will wait for you
but you see, I’ve already laid my plans
I’m not yet packed, but I’m ready to go!
I’ll make the journey alone
to the place where we were supposed to meet
somewhere away from here
until we can just be together
sharing life as of old, always
our love no longer whispered
