Bastards! I exclaim,
ripping the Belkin 54Mbps wireless modem
out of my piece-of-crap Dell’s topmost USB port
and throwing it down by my bare foot
with utter disgust at technology’s whims
and sighing with a tinge of sadness
Whomever had fueled my free WiFi–
last semester on the first floor
in my boyfriend’s dormatory
while I sat curled against his pillows
juggling a beat-up Inspiron in my lap
with the tiny green light
on the little, thumb-shaped device
which blinked and stalled so unpredictably
–has either left
or blocked unauthorized access
or unhooked their spiffy wireless router altogether
leaving me with the need to carry around a twisted coil of CAT5
and the feeling of not having gotten my forty dollars worth
out of my 802.11g
